Nicola Saunderson
Invisible Cities, St Bartholomew's Church Yard, October 2011.
As part of ’10 Days across the City’ in Winchester I worked towards an exhibition at St Bartholomew's Church and Hyde Gate and Chamber, making work in response to the church yard.
I chose to respond to the unmarked grave, rumoured to be that of King Alfred. Through the work considering its position in relation to King Alfred’s original resting spot at Hyde Abbey down the road, along with also thinking about other potential mystery graves in the church yard. Referencing the area of the mystery grave stone I explored alignments with it and Hyde Abbey.
